EVERY MAN WANTED

LETTER PROM BRIGADIER-GEN-ERAL RUSSELL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Hastings, December 10. In a personal letter'to the editor of the "Tribune," dated Mudros, October 28. Brigadier-General Sir Andreiv Russell says:—"l see recruiting is satisfactory. I am sorry to think that they will be wanted, every one of tliem. The class of men coming forward is very good, and our reinforcements compare well with any I have seen at Mudros, where most come on their way to the Peninsula. Ago is of importance. Young fellows under 21 don't wearwell. Their stomachs don't seem able to hold out against diarrhoea and enteric—2s to 35 are the best—though the young ones no doubt can give us older men a good beating in getting over the ground fast, but then soldiering doosn't include a daily cliargo, but does include daily encounter with microbe's. The mounted brigade lias had a rest of nearly two months, and we are off any day to the Peninsula, or elsewhcro. I ' hope we go as well in the nest series 1 as in the .last: What wo do want is a chance of fighting as mount«d_rifles, and ! 1 had hopes the Salonika venture might, 1 and may still, have given us the chance. Tlio men wuid not have fought hotter, j J believe .wo shall .WRBtalljbft sarduynj.:

jackets we can get before tlio winter is over (end of April), Tho prospect of a winter in the- trenclies is enough to make one fool cold. Another twelve months should seo the job through, and those of us who survive will be glad to tic up alongside Wellington wharf. Munro, the new Commander-in-Chief, has just inspected us. If looks go for anything, we have got a fighting General."-
