MORE MILITARY POLICE. Six khaki-clad men. wearing a red cloth covering to their peaked caps, were patrolling the'streets of. Christchuroh on Wednesday, says the "Press." They are known in the military forces as "red caps" or military police,, and they Lave oeen placed oil •duty in the city for that purpose. But unlike the military police of Wellington, who were recruited for that-'purpose alone, the Christcliurch men are drawn from the Permanent Artillery, and are likely _to bring a good dear of tact to bear in discharging their duties. Colonel Chaffey told a reporter that the new men were purely military police,' and being members of the permanent force, cost nothing additional. He had put them on just to keep an eye on the town for tho sake of the good, nam© of the- uniformed hien, and. he thought their presence would have a good influence. They had all the powers of a blue-uniformed' constable, and were also authorised .to enter hotels. But their work lay entirely among the military. CHRISTCHURCH RECRUITINC. If it had not been for men withdraw, ing owing to the Christmas holidays, the infantry complement of the Christchurch quota of the Eleventh Reinforcements would now have numbered 75, while the mounted rank's would have been full, says a southern exchange. As it is, only 47 infantry have, so far, been secured, whilst the mounteds are still short. . • LATEST ENLISTMENTS. • The following have enlisted, and have been passed as medically fit:— William B. Winis, Pipitea Street, City (Infantry). Sidney James •' Sapsford, engineer, Sussex Street, City (Infantry). John B. Curtis, poultry fanner, Johnsonville (Infantry). At a meeting of ;the North Canterbury Recruiting Board held to -night a motion was carried to the'effect t£at in the interests of : recruiting a local camp was an absolute necessity,. The military members of the board did not vote on. the question. It was deoided to institute a reoruiting campaign ill the city and North Canterbury, and to issue a circular to all local bodies to set up a oommittee to collect' and tabulate information regarding the eligible men in the district/ A fine patriotic spirit is evident in Mr. Rowland's 6plendid offer of 15 per oent. discount to Soldiers on all trade lines. Wristlet watches from 10s,, with radium dials from 225. 6d. Take advantage of this generous and visit A. E. 11. Rowland, Jeweller, .90 Manners Street Wellington.—Advt.
