UPPER HUTT FLOWER SHOW
A successful Flower Show, one of. the best jet held at the Upper Hutt, was opened by Sir Joseph Ward on Tuesday afternoon. The proceeds go to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Mr. T. AVaugh, of Lower Hutt, was the judge for cut flowers, and Mr. A. E. Pearce for the decorativo classes. The champion roso of the show was "Mildred Grant," shown by Miss M. Charlesworth. A stand of flowers for exhibition only by Mr. T. Wangli was much admired, and a beautiful display of Japanese irises was made by Mrs. A. E. Pearce. The following je a summary of tho prize list:— Pot Plants.—ln this section, H. W. Lepper won. three first prizes, Mrs. F. J. Ushor, Mrs. 11. Paton, and Miss Kura Alien one each, while other awards were scoured by Airs. Usher and Mrs. R. G. Ma bey. Cut Flowers.—ln this class, Miss M. Charlesworth, besides being awarded tho rose championship, carried off six first and six second prizos, 11. Johnson eight firsts and otic second, Mrs. A. E. Pearce three iifcfc and livo second, while other prizes wore won by Balcombe Brown (2), Mrs. S. Bobami, and Hiss Irene Martin. Floral Arrangements.—Tbo awards in this class could not be secured last evening, with the oxceptiou of the table decoration competition, which was won by Mrs. F. Seed. Vegetables.—ln the opon classes, Balcoinbo Brown was first for collei-tiou of vegetables and for peas, 11. W. Lepper for cabbnge and lettuce, and Bev. F. J. Usher for broad beans, i COTTAGE GARDEN CLASSES. Cut Flowers.—There, was considerable merit in the whole of this display, the awards falling to Mrs. A. Anderson for sweet peas (3), r.cmesias, pentstcmous, stocks, and sweet william; Miss Irene Martin for cut flowers (one of each variety), poppies, and godelias; Bev. F. .1. Usher, for cut flowers; Mrs. F. Murphy. For finm-les. f'miini'lim'.v M!b> JirMwiiiLlUm And Jai'Jsffiur.ii!. .
for roses; Mrs. Roband, for pansies; and Jlrs. E. A. Pearse for swcot peas; while other prizes wero won by Mrs. Coliett and Mrs. J. I|arner. A^egetables.—The prize, winners in this class wore: Mrs. Murphy, for collection of vegetables, peas, beans, turnips, and carrots; Mrs. A. Anderson, for cabbage, and potatoes; S. G. Kirker, for lottyce; A. Green, for potatoes; Mrs. A. Seed, for silver beet; and AV. Thomas, for cabbage. Amateur Photography.—G. B. Young was first for ' landscapo portrait or figure study, pliotograpli of animal life, and the Rev. J. H. Sykes for the best collection.
