» The compilation of the National, Register has,advanced' a":stage nearer, com-' pletion,; arid another preliminary- suni■inary was issued ■ yesterday embracing youths of 17 and 18, below military age, and men from 45 to 59, above military age.' .These figures swell tho total of the register to 295,034 men. The number of youths of 17 "and" 18 years 'is 16,981, distributed among tho four military .. districts vs. follows Auckland, .4434; Wellington, 5458; Canterbury, 8894; Otago, 3195. Tile total of the men above military age is 68,433, distributed as follows Auckland, 18,651 • Wellington, 22,149; Canterbury, 15,866; Otago, 11,767. In addition to the total of thejold men above mentioned, there were 972 foreign subjects above military age, and also 3 returned soldiers, '2 of them 45 years of age and- one 48 years of age. " '. The register is myt yet complete. There are still some 7000 schedules held up for inquiry, and other totals are subject to revision.
