CRICKET
A SCHOOLS' COMPETITION. The weekly meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association was held last night, Mr. C. 6. Wilson presiding. A letter was received from the hon. secretary of the_ Central Cricket Club, stating that owing to enlistment and other causes depleting the junior eleven of its. members, his committee regretted that the club had to withdraw from the junior competitions.
The chairman stated that he had discussed with Mr. Fanning the advisability of holding a school cricket competition on the Basin Reserve at Christmas time. Owing to there being no interprovinoial matches, the Baem.. Reserve would be idle then, and they could get six senior school teams. Mr. Fanning rather favoured a Town V. Country school match, but said ho was willing to fall in with any proposal adopted.
After further discussion it was decided, on the motion of the chairman, that the association should offer to the Public Schools' Association the use of the Basin Reserve on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and the day following, for the purpose of holding a. schools' competition. The chairman said that some memento might be given to the premier team, such as caps, if they were procurable.
_ The. chairman dealt with the financial situation, which he pointed out had been affected by tlie withdrawal of the Wednesday teams and others. Roughly they would have to make up. £100 for those canses.
