A thrilling story is told of how tha British merchantman, Japanese Prince, cscaped from a submarine. A passenger says: "For fivehours she struggled to' escape, inoanwhilo we were boinj- heavily shelled. It was the most exciting time of my life, .shells were dropping into the water all around. The captain stood pluckily at his post zig-zag-ping and handling his vessel with wonderful ability and iudgraent. The crew loyally helped._ Finally the passengers, wlio were thriU-od by the excitement, had the satisfaction of scoing the ship slowly outpace her ruthless pursuer. By a miracle we reached port safelv. Tiio gallantry of the crew was recognised by tho ehipowuera, who gave £600 'to the captain and a similar sum to praw. • ;
