THE RUSH FOR PASSPORTS
LARGE NUMBERS REQUIRED
"There aro indications of an enormous number of passports being applied for," said the Hon. G. W. Russell .yesterday. "Although tlie now instructions Issued by the Home Government requiring that all persons landing in the Mother Country must liavo passports liavo only been in force aboout a fortnight, approximately 500 applications for passports liavo been received. As every passport has to be signed by His Excellency the Governor, and as before this can be-done, inquiries have to bo made' by tlio police about every person applying, it has been found necessary to 'issue fresh instructions that person's desiring passports must give at least a fortnight's notice of their desire to leave the country, and to obtain a passport, and that in, every case it is desirable tliait a longer period should be allowed the Department in which to have the passports prepared."
