WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION

4 MAY NOW OPERATE ON FUNDS. A mooting of the newly-formed War Relief Association of Wellington was lield in the Mayor's room yesterday afternoon. Sir. Win. Ferguson presided. I'hero wore present: Messrs. J. P. Luke, L. 0. R. Tripp, S. Kirkcaldic, F. W. Manton, J. M'lntoah, J. Lewis, C. M. Luke, E. J. Colley, G.'Shirtcliffe, A. R. Atkinson, J. Hutcheson, and t-lio Hon. J. G. W. Aitken. Mr. Fergusun was appointed permanent chairman. Mr. Tripp, who has had in hand the work of incorporating tho association under tho War Funds Act, reported that the association had been duly iucorporated, and tho executive could now operate upon the funds, subject to the restrictions provided by the regulations as approved by the Governor. Several littlo matters affecting banking and other formalities were decided upon. It was considered necessary that a. paid secretary should be appointed at as early a dato as possible, and Messrs. Ferguson and Tripp wero appointed a sub-committee to go into the matter and report at a later meoting. Tho Mayor (Mr. Luke), tho Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, and Mesßrs. W. Ferguson and L. 0. H. Tripp were appointed a deputation to wait upon the' Government and bring under its notice the fact that tho association had been applied to for a monetary gift by a private lady (Mrs. Boden), with which to establish a hostel in Wellington for discharged sick and wounded soldiers without relatives in the- city, and to impress on the Government that ' 'if any such establishment is necessary it is tho obvious duty of tho Government to establish it."

Th'ere_ will be a further meeting of the association later in the week. - It was dccided that meetings of tho executive should be held at 4 o'clock in the afternoon on the days specified.
