THE RED CROSS
_ A wise and thoroughly businesslike step has been taken by the painstaking ancl energetic workers who for months past have been zealously _ collecting, packing, and dispatching various necessaries- and comforts for our soldiers at the front, in ..hospital, and elsewhere within the broad sphere of Reel Cross activity. As was inevitable in the first rush of enthusiastic ardour to cl< something to help in the_ noble work of the Reel Cross organisation, there has been a good deal of overlapping, with its accompanying waste of energy and needless expense, and it is with the. object of sjstematising this work, and apportioning future efforts in fair measure to the district centres, that a conference has been called, 'in Wellington, of representatives of all organisations interested in Red Cross work.- This conference, which assembles on Tuesday, will bo preceded on Monday by a lecture by Surgeon-General Henderson on "The Aims and Objects of the British Red Cross." Delegates who attend this lecture should come to tbe ensuing conference with a clear view of what is required of the Red Cioss worker, and we have 110 doubt that the result will be the establishment of a strong and effective organisation for the systematic control of the splendid work in which the Mayoress of Wellington (Mfis. J P. Luke) and her willing bands of helpers have rendered such conspicuous local service.
