Arrived—Pohorua (6.40 a.m.), from West'port; Paloona (5 p.m.), from Lyttelton. 1 'FRISCO MAIL STEAMER ARRIVES. 1 Several hours earlier than Anticipated the T feniou Company's Maitni arrival in port fs'om San Francieco, via Papeete and Rarotonga, last evening. She was granted ••pratique and berthed at the Queen's ffVharr Ko. 2 to land passengers and discharge cargo. The Maitai left the Oalitfornian port at noon on November 10, and ■ arrived at Papeete on November 22 at 10 m.in., sailintr again for Raro tonga at 1 .•p.m. the following day. The latter port j was made at 2.30 p.m. on November 25, and I departure taken for Wellington at 11.30 p.m. the same day. Generally speaking fine weather was experienced on the run down wfth the exception of ' southerly winds towards the latter end of the trip. The Maitai's cargo for Wellington consists of 900 tons, and 330 tons for trail; shipment to Sydney. Included in the above is a quantity of fruit. Instead of proceeding on to Sydney as usual, the Maitai will turn round here and go back to San Francisco, via way ports, on Thursday. December 9. In future she will maintain the service -with the Moana. WAIRUNA FROM SAN FRANCISCO. The Union cargo steamer Wairuna arrived in port from San Francisco, via Suva, yesterday morning, and berthed at the Queen's Wharf, No. 6. Good weather / prevailed on the whole run. Included in the Wairuna's cargo -were 20,000 cases of oil. Captain H, C. Hamand is still in command, ana has with him the following deck officers-.-Chief. Mr. P. S. Peterson; second, Mr. V. S. Siepen; third, Mr. J. S. Sangster. It is probable that the vessel wall get away on Saturday for Melbourne and Sydney to complete diechaTge. < MANUKA'S DEPARTURE POSTPONED. On ,account of the late arrival of the Maitai from San Francisco, via way ports, last, evening, the departure of the Manuka for Sydney has been postponed till 5 p.m. ■to-day. She is waiting here to take Sydney passengers, mails, and cargo forward. WEST COAST WEATHER. There was too much sea on the Greymouth bar yesterday morning to allow the Kamo •to leave for Wellington.. The Kowhai, a smaller vessel, t managed to get •out, however, and she is due here this evening with 69.CC0 feet of timber. MESS-TABLE GOS-SIP. Mr. White, second officer of the Mamma, ■who has been on holiday leave, has rejoined the Hospital Ship as second. Mr. G. Madden, who signed off the Manuka'B articles at Lyttelton this trip, has rejoined that vessel at Wellington. Mr. Erwin, late of the Willochra, axrived from the south yesterday morning. The local agents of the F. and -S. Line have not received-any advice of the reported arrival of the Dorset at London on Wednesday. The vessel left Wellington on October 12. On arrival at Nelson from "Wellington on Sunday, the Nikau "will lay up for overhaul. It is anticipated that she will return in time to we up her usual Tunning on December 16. The Kaitoa, which has been running in conjunction with the NiVan. will maintain the service, leaving Wellington on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and 'Saturdays in future. Continuing her journey from London, the New Zealand Shipping Company's Hemuera left Hobart for Auckland at 6 a.m. on Wednesday. She is due at the northern port on December 6, and will subsequently vieit Wellington. . It is reported that a steamer named : tho W&gama, 4969 tons, Captain Ostervold, has been chartered by the Barber Line to leave New York shortly for New Zealand. The local agents know nothing of the matter. Telegraphic advice received from Westport yesterday stated that the Arahura cleared that port for Nelson and Wellington at 4 p.m. She is due here, this after-, noon, flnd will make a run across to Picton and back to-morrow. The well-known .Picton steamer Waitohi met with a slight accident in Tory Channel on Monday evening, through the shackle chain connecting the steering gear coming adrift, states an exchange. The boat was thus rendered helpless for a time, but luckily she found a- soft place to beach, striking land in the vicinity of Baxter's Point. Within a chain on either side were dangerous shoals. While aground repairs were soon vftgeted, and, with the rising tide, the steamer floated off undamaged, and proceeded on her way to the Wairau Bar. wl The local office 'of the Union Company has* been advised that the Talune left Suva at 4 Thursday for Auckland. She has 1490 cases of bananas on board for transhipment to Wellington. Due in port from Melbourne, HobaTt, and the south this morning, the Mokoia- will land- 646 tons of cargo before sailing for Hobart and Melbourne at noon to-morrow. On Monday next the " Union 6teamer Wanaka will call in at Wellington from Auckland in order to pick up Timaru, Oamaru, and Bluff cargo. The Tarawera ie due from northern ports this morning with 500 tons of cargo. On account of the late arrival of the Maitai it is probable that her departure for southern ports will he postponed till to-morrow. • The Corinna's trip to New Plymouth has been abandoned, and arrangements have been made for her to leave her' for Dunedin direct at noon to-morrow. With over 300 tons of cargo on board, the Pateena arrived from Nelson, via Picton, during the early hours of this morning. She will be dispatched for Picton and Nelson at 12.45 p.m. to-day. A projected departure from Auckland for London at daybreak to-day is 'the ShawSavill liner Rangatiia. She is duo-at her destination on January 13. At 1.30 p.m. yesterday the Karu arrived at Gisborne from Auckland. She will leave for Wellington to-day, being due here late on Sunday. Departure will be taken for New Plymouth on Monday. The -Blackball Company's Ngkauta, is en route from Greymouih to New Plymouth, having left there at 5 p.m. yceterday. Part of her cargo will be landed there, and part of it at Wellington on Monday next. The Chatham Islands trader Himitangi arrived at Lyttelton from Waitangi at 4 p.m. yesterday with a full load of wool and stock. She will return (o the Islands to-day for another load. At 6.30 p.m. yesterday the Wostralia readied Port Chclmers from Melbourne. The vessel has arrived much eariier than anticipated and has come across to replace the Paloona in the Eflst Coast Service.
