NO SHORTAGE IN WELLINGTON MILITARY DISTRICT TRADESMEN & MAORIS Of; 183 non-commissioned . officers awaiting selection in- the Wellington Military District just before tlw n.c.o.'s •for the Thirteenth Reinforcements were caMed up, 106 wore on the Wellington City, hooks and 44 were'oil the Manawatu.books, leaving,only 33 as coming from the other groups in the district. (Hawse's Bay ... 2 Group 7a (Wairarapa) 13 Group 8 (Taranaki) 18 Total-: 183 Over half the candidates wished to join the infantry' or the mounted arm. Not for any arm was there a district shortage. The City and Manawatu lad no dearth of men for their n.c.o. quotas, Wairarapa had little more than enough candidates, Taranaki had' enough, and Bawka's Bay was four short. TRADESMEN FOR THE FRONT. FEW MAORIS BOOKED. Very few Maoris are registered in the Wellington district at present. At the end of last week 1 there were 17 fit, six of whom were available for fhs next draft. There were, also, three who had not been examined. None were on the waiting list in Wellington City,_ there were five fit Maoris registered in the Manawatu, one fit .and three ■ not. examined in Taranaki, none in Haivke's Bay, and none in Wairarapa.
