A CROATIAN REGIMENT
FOR SERVICE IN SERBIA'. (By Telegraph.—Press Association J Auckland, December 1. Battel Nihalfcvic, a native of DalJiiatia, and late editor of tlie newspaper "Zora," lias written to Lord Liverpool urging that a special Croatian, regiment he formed in New Zealand for service in Serbia. Already forty Croatian volunteers in Whangarei district have intimated their willingness to enlist' if the New Zealand Government will accept their services. . Mr. Massey has replied: "I much appreciate the patriotic spirit which has prompted you to offer yourselves for thd defence of your country, and shall be glad to confer with tlio Minister of Defence with a- view to seeing whether it is possible to give effect to your request." Deferring to the. above telegram yesterday, the Hon. J. Allen, Miuistai- of Defence, said that it seemed to Mm impossible that Croatians could he enTolled in the New Zealand _ Forces unless tliey liad become British subjects bv naturalisation, and ho believed that, a'great many Croatians in New Zealand "were not naturalised.
