MORE GENEROUS TREATMENT ! r1 CASES BEVIEWED A sitting of the War Pensions Board wa,3 held yesterday, at which a number 1 of applications were considered. Some of the.. decisions given are interesting, especially those in cases reviewed, which have been treated much more gener- • ously than at ■ the first hearing. Following is a summary of the oases heard:— ■'■ , ' Returned Soldiers. A private (reoonsiderod): . Granted previously .10s, a week ,on account of heart trouble.'' Since tie board granted his claim he has been in AVellington Hospital on two occasions. His pen-, sion is increased to. 30s. a week for six months,'at the end of which time his case will be again considered. • Private (reconsidered): Previously ' granted 10s. a week for three months ; allowauco renewed for a further .term ■of three months, the first period having f elapsed.. lie is suffering from rheuVmatism. , . ' : •, Private: Suiforing from heart trouble and neurasthenia.' On the recommendation contained in a'special medical report he is to receive' an allowance at the rate of the full pension of 355. a week for -six months. Private: He underwent an operation :for appondicitis, following upon which there liavo been complications. He is •undergoing another operation to have tile' wound treated, and ho is to receive 30s. a woek for three months. The case ■•■ will be reconsidered' at the ond of the . period. "to be reconsidered. ■ Private: Gunshot wound in left hand, 'loss of : three finger's; "pension for life of £1 • Private: Gunshot wound in left hand, loss of four • fingers; pension of 255. a weak. , Privato: .Suffering; from rheumatism; • allowance of £1 a week for six months, case then to be reconsidered. ; Privato: Gunshot wound, now healed, in left leg; allowance of 30s. a week ■ for three months, case then to be re- . considered. ; Private:'Left'arm damaged by gunshot wound; ponsion of 30s. a week. Private: Paralysed arm as result of (gunshot wound ; pension of 30s. a week, i Private: Lost right eye; pension of !•£! a woek. • , . • Private: Lower jaw fractured, leav,iang permanent 'disfigurement; pension ./•■.'of £1 week. . ' Private: Left arm damaged, bullet- . 'wound; pension of- 255. a week. • ' ( Private: Suffering from rheumatism; allowance of £1, per week 1 for four ltmonths,,case then,to be reconsidered. Four applications were adjourned. Dependants, Motjier of a private: .Granted a pension of £1 a week, and £32 for her four children. Applicant, who is a iwidow, is going to marry again, and ishe will lose her own. pension; but the / Board [has decided that the pension to the children shall .continue. ■. AVife of a lieutenant (two cases exactly. similar, both reviewed claims): 'Maximum pension for widow and. one child, £117, reduced to £86 on account of superannuation; full pension of £117 .per year granted in addition to superannuation.. AVife of,a private: She was previously'granted the full pension of £65 and £13 ,for her child. Sinco then she lias married again, and under the Act she loses her pension, bnt the Board may in .its discretion give her a gratuity. Tho, Board granted a gratuity of £50, and also a l 'continuance of the pension .of £13 for the cliild.' Wife of a sergeant-major (reconsider- . Ed): Tfe maximum ' pension ia £75 for the widow and; £26. for two. children, ..but on account "of superannuation the total amount was .previously reduced to. £75._ The full pension was granted. AVife of a trooper (reconsidered): Previously granted £26 a year. "This widow, who has no children, having inarried her late, husband oil the eve of Oris i sailing for the front, is in employment, earning: 255.' a week and 'found. . i Before her marriage she maintained herself and she continues to do so. Her pension was.increased to'£l a week. , AVife of lance-corporal (reconsider- ■ 3d): In tho first instance the Board /ranted her only the amount contrib- ' fited to her by her husband under an of the Court. The pension is in- : . 'creased to, £52 for the widow and £13 for one child. , Mother of. private (reconsidered): She had previously been refused a pension • beqause, in the opinion of the Board,, tho evidence went to show that instead of her being a dependent of her son, !.tho son had been _ dependent on her. She is now to receive 10s. a week. The applications of several mothers were considered. The rule followed by the Board is to allow 10s. a week to. the mother of a son who had lived at home and ' paid board merely. Larger amounts. are granted when there are ■special circumstances. . Nino mothers were granted 10s. a ! week, of whom one had an income from '» trust fund of £30 a vear. - A; mother, one of whose sons has ■teen killed, and another has returned •disabled, was granted £1 a week. ... Mother of a private: AYidow; granted 15s. a week.. ' Mother of a lieutenant: Granted £1' ■a week.' . One sister: Previously supported by her brother ; granted 15s. a week. One father: Incomo of atout .£SO a year, granted pension of 10s. a week.,;:' 1 One fatlior: A case worth remark!' 1 His son was killed, and he has enlisted himself. . Ho asked for the pension to enable him to support liis young children. Ho is a widower.—Granted pension of 10s. per Two mothers, both of whom had been abandoned by their husbands,. wero granted each 15s. a week.
