At an anti-conscription meeting which was held in the Memorial Hall, Mr, Pethick Lawrence presided, and a large force of Australian, Ne : v Zealand, and Canadian soldiers} and medical students formed the bulk of the audience. The appearance of Messrs. J. Ramsay Macdonald, P. Morell, and C P. Trevelyan, M.P.'s, on the platform was the signal for a concerted rush by the soldiers; who captured the platform, tore down the "flags, smasited the chairs, and displayed the placard "Auzacs want victory I" ' They ejected the anti-con6criptionist sympathisers, and an Australian took the chair, while soldieru-delivered impromptu speeches, afterwords resolving in favour of the rejection of "all peace terms except those dictated by the Allies. . , The newspapers give prominence to the proceedings in semi-humorous articles.
