At the annual .meeting of the'council of the New Zealand Institute of Accountants, it was announced that Messrs. • James. Hay, of Blenheim, and A. Garnet, of Hastings, had been admitted associates of the institute. Four other, applications were deferred, to the Executive ' Committee for inquiry and action. . - . , Captain C. M'Donald, marine superitnendent 1 for the Union Company, will arrive here from Dunedin to-day. Mr. John O'Dowd, of Masterton, has been advised that his son, Sergeant Tim O'Dowd, is at present'ou the staff of the High Commissioner in London. The Rev. J. B. Gasoh, who was a canon- of St. . Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne, and had 'been vicar of St. John's Church of England," East Malvern, for considerably; over 20 years, died at East Malvern on November 10. Mr. W. Allan has . been appointed to represent the Wellington Education Boa.rd at ithis evening's conference (convened 'by-, the Federation),- respecting a censorship of cinema films. The chairman of the>.board (the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken) i will" be ; present as the representative .of the Hawera Borough Council and the North Canterbury Education Board,' and '• another member of the board (Mr. C. M. Luke) will also represent a local body.; ' Mr. Charles Collins (City Treasurer), ivho'has occupied the position of houoriry. organist of, the Vivian Street Baptist Church for twenty-five years, was honoured by the members of that church last evening, by a special entertainment. The Rev. A. G. Brown presided, and in the course of, an address paid a high tribute to the organist who had rendered such faithful an'd-valuable service to the church. . -Appreciative letters, were also from 1 the : Revs. H. Driver, C. Dallaston, and- J. J. North, who have at different times ministered at Vivian. Street, .and addresses in a similar strain were delivered by Messrs. A. Hoby, C. Cathie,' - and C, Godbor. During the evening Mr. Collins was presented with. a handsome leatherbound 'album, ' containing the signature of every momber of the church. A musical programme enlivened what was a memorable, evening in.the history of the church; . • ,

A Press Association message from Dunedin states tliat cabled advice has .been received of the death at Lemnos from dysentery of Lieut.-Colonel Stewart, of Crooltston, brother of the mem-, ' ber for Dunedin West. Deceased was in charge of. the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, and escaped when the transport Southland was torpedoed. -/.• Mr..Gerald Griffen, the singer now appearing at His Majesty's Theatre, is to sing a solo at St. Mary of the Angels' Church ou Sunday morning.' • • Mr. George Petersen arrived at Invercargill from Hobart yesterday to arrange a tour of the Dominion by Wirth's Circus. x Tho tour will open at Ir.vercargill on December 21. .
