GALLIPOLI DAY

'ARRANGEMENTS FOR TO-DAY. '' The sportsmen of the City and the ladies who are always at. hand to assist in tho patriotic movement will be busy in the City to-day. The-effort is to raise a sum of money sufficient to supply our boys ill the trenches and at Gallipoli and Samoa with Christmas cheer. At 9 a.m. and earlier sales of badges, flowers, sweets, and produoe will be made in the streets,, and also the Gallipoli surprise packets, These packets contain coins, postal notes, and stamps anfcl orders for trophies; the values are from £2 down, and the packets are to bo sold at sixpence each. In the afternoon a unique' entertainment is boing provided at the Basin Reserve.' • This function will start at 2 p.m. and terminate at 5 p.m. During tho morning and evening concert parties will- paraae the streets, and a big effort is to be made to raise the sum of £500. If this sum is reached the sports bodies v of tho City will be enabled to immediately communicate with London by cable and order £2000 worth of tobacco, sweetmeats, etc., to be sent on to our boys in time for Christmas.

An interesting 1 part .of to-day,'s proceedings will be the part the school children - are to. take/ The scholars of • ,tho Eoseneath - School- are to sing ' national airs at the Bank of New Zealand corner between 11 a.m. and noon, and afterwards will sing the various national hymns at the consulates of the Allie?: Japan . (Mr. T. Young, of Young and Tripe), Russia (Mr. TJltan M'&ho, Nathan's Buildings), and Belgium, Italy, and France (Hon. Charles Johnston, Messrs. Leonard Tripp, and James Macintosh), all before Johnston and Co.'s building in Featherston Street. Then they are to proceed to Ki'rkcaldio's tea-rooms, whore a very handsome enlarged photograph of Anzac Cove is to be sold by auction by Mr. Moody, auctioneer for Dalgety and Co. A similar picture to the one in question was sold recently in the country for £60, for patriotic purposes. Mr. R. Darrach, headmaster of the R-oseneath School, is responsible for this contribution to what promises to be a notable day in Wellington.
