HARBOUR AFFAIRS

MEETING OF THE BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board was held last night. There were present: Messrs'. 0. E. Damoll (chairman), R. Fletdher, M. Cohen, R. E. Sinclair, A. MacFarlane, J. C. Cobbe, J. W. M'Ewan, W. T. Hildreth, A. H. Hindmarsh, M.P., W. Cable, J. G. Harkness, H. L. Nathan, C W. Jones, and R. A. .Wright, M.P. The baiik pass books showed a credit balance to current account of £46,079, to Imprest Account, £1420; and on freed deposit,. £60,000. Payments for the month amounted to £21^067. The formal motion to amend the bylaws to give effect to the increase in the charges on wool in accordance with, the resolution passed at vlast meeting of the board, - was agreed to without debate. .

The tender of Messrs. Howie and Matthews, fpr additions to cheese store Z; at £10,256, was accepted. The engineer's estimate was £10,431. _'A letter, wa's "received from the Marine Department stating that the Government, after .careful consideration of the joint letter from the principal New Zealand Harbour Boards on the question of .'payment-'of harbour dues by transports carrying freight, could not see its way to pay the due as requested. It was decided to instal, at the request of the Petone Borough Council, a spare weighbridge near the Petone Wharf on the understanding that the Petone. borough pay to the board 8 per cent, per annum on the value of the appliance, and the cost of erecting it, the borough to maintain and operate the bridgo and to receive the revenue from it.

The board to call for tenders for the carrying out of the additions and extensions to Day's Bay Wharf, in accordance with the engineer's plans. It was also resolved that the present call fees at the suburban wharves be increased from 2s. to 3s. on the completion of the work. -
