THE LICENSING ACT
. — *~ I MODERATE LEAGUE'S DEMANDS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchuroh, November 24. A deputation from the Canterbury Branch of the Moderate League waited on the Hon. B. M'Nab' to ask that Part VI of the Licensing Act, providing for the appointment of special inspectors and the proper inspection of liquor in licensed premises, be enforced without delay, also that sales for consumption oft the premises be restricted, that bottle departments close at 8 o'clock, and that exemplary punishment be meted out to licensees deliberately committing breaches. The Minister said lie fully recognised the value of the Moderate League's auggestions, which, if put into effect, would greatly reduco oxcessive drinking. Tlie administration of the Licensing Act was'in the hands of other Departments—Police and Internal Affairs, and ha _ would go fully into the mattor •with lua colleagues.
