SWIMMING
CENTRE EXEOUTIVE MEETING,
A meeting of the executive of the Wellington Swimming Club was held at the Y.M.C.A; last evening, Mr. G. S. Hill presiding. Tho New Zealand Council previously decided to present Major B. C. Freyberg, D.5.0., with a diploma of the Legion of Heroism, the certificate was forwarded to the Wellington Centre for presentation. In the absence of Major Freyberg. it was decided, on the suggestion of Mr. F. Wilton, to have the diploma framed and forwarded on to Mrs. Freyberg. A letter was received from the Thorndon Club stating that < owing to the president of the centre not having received an invitation to attend the conference of swimmers that had been convened to discuss the future of swimming, their club would not he represented at the meeting: It was also stated in tho letter that an invitation had not been forwarded to the president to attend the general meeting last year. They considered it an act of discourtesy. Mr. G. S. Hill explained that, as chairman of the centre, he had thought it advisable, in view of the depleted nature of the clubs, to call an impromptu conference, and that secretaries of the various clubs had been circularised. He saw not the - semblance of discourtesy in their omitting' to invite the president. Other members also expressed surprise at the Thorndon Club's action. It was finally decided that the letter be received, and that the chairman personally explain the position to the president. It was also resolved that the action of tho chairman and secretary had the full support of the meeting.
