DRAMATIC RECITAL

The Concert Chamber -was filled to capacity last evening when tho Rev. Archibald Hunt gave a dramatic recital that was thorouglily appreciated by all present, and endorsed the opinion often expressed that the reverend gentleman is richly endowed as an entertainer. In his serious dramatic work he is easy and sincere, thoygh ho does not bite deeply into' one's comprehension, and his nice sense of humour stands him in excellent stead in reciting selections. in lighter vein.. In the glimpses he gavo of character sketches, notably as Old Man Thompson and his drunken son, in Bret Harte's story, "The Prodigal," he showed that perhaps he was at his best'in that phase of the reciter's art. Throughout the gripping story ho held the attention of his audience quite firmly. His comic recital, "The New Hat," was excellently humorous, and the tender solicitude evidenced in the Blascheck monologue, "His First Long Trousers," found a sentimental echo in the hearts of all parents present. He also recited the musical monologues, "The Coward" (Hannequin), "Just by Laughing" (Leslie Harris), and the recitals, "A Lesson in History" (J. Hickory Weed), and "Caged" (Overton). , Valuable assistance was lent Mr..Hunt by Mr. Geo. F, Holloway,' - who gave a vigorous exposition of Rachmaninoff's "Prelude," and played the accomp-ini-ir.ents to the monologues with a nice, artistic perception of their value to the recital. Mr. Hubert F. Wood, a pleasing tenor, sang ."When My Ship Comes Sailing Home" (Dorel), and had to respond to an encore. The clarinet solo, "Alicante" (Le Thiere), was better than well played by Mr. H. Moscliini, whoso tone and phrasing left nothing to be desired. Mr. Win. Goudie sang that fine song, "Melisande in the Wood" (Goetz).

Captain Donald Simson will give an address at the Y.M.C.A. Assembly Hall tonight, commencing at 8 o'clock. The address will be on matters of interest connected with the war, with illustrative views of Gallipoli and Egypt.
