The Monowai, whioh. had to pass Gisborno on Sunday night, owing to the East Coast gale, berthed at the breakwater this morning. Captain Drewette states that he had never seen such a'howling gale on the coast. Ho recommends the erection of a wireless station at Napier. SYDNEY BOAT DELAYED. On account of herniate arrival at Wei--lington yesterday, the Moeraki will not get away for Lyttelton till 3 p.m. to-day. She will return lore on Friday morning, l and will be dispatched for Sydney at 5 p.m. the same day. MONOWAI RUNNING LATE. Bad weather ou the East Ooast has been responsible for delaying the Monowai's arrival at Wellington ' from Auckland, via way ports. She will roach here early this morning, however, and it is expected that she will sail for Lyttelton and Dunedin at 3 p.m. KIA OKA AT HOBAET; The head office of the Shaw. Savill and Albion Company has beon advised that'the Kia Ora, bound from London, arrived 'at Hobart at 9 p.m. on Monday. She is due at Auckland on Sunday neit, and at Wellington about December 6. KARAMU FROM FIJI.. ' Word was received by the local office of the Union Company yesterday that the Karamu, which 16 en route from Suva to Wellington with a large quantity of fruit, was compelled to put into Gisborhe .at 4.30 p.m. yesterday to replenish blinkers. 'A cable message has been received stating that the White Star liner Cufio arrived at London from the Bluff on Monday. The vessel, which was. en route from Australian ports, made a call at the Bluff on September 9, and continued her journey to the Home port- on September 13. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. W. S. Gilpin, second officer of the Koromiko, has been accepted for actiTe service. Mr. G. H. King has joined the Pateena. as third officer. Mr. Shaw, late mate of the Kapuni, is reported to bo seriously ill. Captain W. Jones, late of the Canopua, who recently obtained his master's certificate. has taken charge of the schooner Morning Light at Lyttelton.

Assistant Lightkeeper Brough, vjp Cape Maria lighthouse, who was about to transfer to Centre Island, has enlisted with the Reinforcements. Until he is called, -up he will be stationed, at Pencorrow lighthouse in place of Assistantrkeeper M'Gorvie, -who goes to Centre Island. Captain E. J. Hales, late chief officer of the Araliura, has been appointed master of the Tcrawhiti, vice Captain Robertson, vrbo has resigned his position to take charge of the Lake Wa-katipu ferry steamers. :

Mr. F. Govsky, at present chief officer of the Mararoa, will join, the Arahura in a similar capacity. Mr. E. Cordy, chief of the Koromiko, has been appointed chief of the Marn-roa.

Mr. Bertie, third officer of the Mararoa, will, it is understood, join the Haupiri «s second.

Mr. ICarlson, late of tho Paloona, has joined the Koromiko as second officer, and the late second. of that vessel hAs been promoted a stop. ■ Mr. Richmond, late ol the engine-room staff of the Mokoia, has succeeded Mr. M'Masters as chief engineer of the Kauri. Mr. M'Masters has gone on to Auckland for instructions.

At 3 p.m. to-day the Kowhai will leave her© for New Plymouth and Greymouth. The Ripple, which, was delayed by bad weather up the coast, has arrived in port. Messrs.- Johnston and Co. hope to get. her away for Napier and Gisborne at 6 p.m. to-dav—one day late. .

Nelson and New Plymouth cargo will bs taken in by the Corinna at Wellington on Friday next, not Thursday, as previously announced. The Shaw-Savill liner Ran gat ira was to have left Napier late last night for Whangarei, Auckland, and London. Tho Karamea. will leave Picton for Lyttelton to-day. She is due back at Wellington on- Friday next, and will be dlapitched for London on Sunday. On account of unfavourable -weather the Wakatu proceeded from Wellington to Lyttelton direct last evening. She will make a call at' Kaikoura on the run up to Wellington on Friday.

. TimbeT is being landed at ' Greymouth by the Karori for Hobart and Melbourne. Having called at Durban on Friday last the P. .and S. chartered skumer Paparoa is expected to arrive at Wellington from Liverpool, via way ports, about December 27.

Yesterday morning the Government steamer Hinenioa went out to Pencarrow light and Karori llock. She is .scheduled to leave here for southern lighthouses at noon to-morrow.

Advico has been received that the C. and D. liner Nerehana left Cape Town on November 9 for Australian and Kcw Zealand ports. The vessel is bound from London.

Tho usual call at Wellington .will be omitted from, the Himitangi's itinerary this trip. The vessel is due at Lyttelton" from the Chathams to-day, and will leave this evening for Waitangi to load again for Lyttelton.
