A FALSE ALARM
AND THE CONSEQUENCES.
As a sequel to a false, alarm which caused the Petone. Fire Brigade to turn out on.Saturday evening a young man named Robert John Percival Lucas, who had a number of previous convictions 'against him, two bciiiry for similar offences, was charged at Petone yesterday, before Messrs, John Wakeham and '■Al- . Fred Coles, Justices of the -Peace, with wilfully destroying a'.pane of glass and wilfully giving a false alarm of fire. Accused, who was described by the police as "a waster, who imposed on his par- \ ents," pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given for the prosecution by a boy ami 5i,-l who saw the act, and identified defendant as the culprit.. No evidence was tendered by accused, who was fined -«£3 and costs, or in default one months lniprisonment. He was granted 14 days in which to pay the 'fine.;' • ■ ■
