MAGISTRATES COURT
Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided at a sitting of the Magistrate's Court oil Saturday morning, when Albert Neilson was charged with the theft of goods to the value of lis. from the liner Ruapehu. Accused was remanded until Wednesday next, and admitted to bail on a personal deposit of £30. John Turner, an articled seaman, who absented' himself from the steamer Karamea without first obtaining leave, was sentenced to two days' imprisonment and ordered to pay costs. The Magistrate directed that Turner should be placed on board the Karamea if tho vessel sailed before to-day.
Andrew Price was remanded for a. week on a charge of attempting to leave the Dominion during the currency of a maintenance order.
Persons convicted of drunkenness were penalised as follow: DaJiiol M'Farlanc, sentenced to a month's imprisonment ; Edith Home, fined £3, with tho option of spending a month in prison; George Murray, fined £2, or seven days' imprisonment; Peter Hughes, ordered to pay 17s. fid. medical expenses incur;ed; Percy Williams, ordered to pay _9s. 6d. for damage doiie to the arresting constable's helmot.
