Tho Wellington Musical Union has engaged the Wellington Town Hall for " "Jfday, December 7, for its performance of The Messiah,'''' which it is interesting to hear mil once more witness Mr. Eob■Parker in the conductor's rostrum. AVhen approached upon the matter, and uged to weild tho baton, Mr. Parker said . like to conduct the old '"Messiah" once more,, and as it was proposed that the society's conductor, Mr. Herbert Claughton, should preside at the organ, Mr. Parker consented. The organ will bo associated with a large body of,strings, but tho brass and woodwinds will be dispensed with as uncertain harmonic Quantities where the organ is concerned. For this performance the union lias decided to depend wholly on local talent as far as soloists are concerned. The quartet will be: Soprano, Mrs. Fogerty (nw Miss Daniell), a pupil of Sister Mary Agnes; contralto. Miss Janie Knight, of tho Lower Hutt (who has sung the contralto rolo in the oratorio at the Hutt, and whose voice 1 is commended by her teacher, Miss Phoebe Parsons); tenor, Mr. Laslett Exton. a light tenor well known as a ballad sineerand baritone.'Mr. Charles Clarkson, who is a thoroughly trustworthy vocalist. The olioir. has been augmented for the performance, and will include the members of the AA 7 ellington Liedertafel.
