MILE VENDORS FINED Sullivan Bros, were charged with selling adulterated milk, the analyst's certificate, showing added water. A fine of £10 was imposed, and the defendants

wore ordered to pa.v solicitor's foe and other costs, Amounting to £1 18s. 6d. Sir. V. It. Meredith, of the Crown Law Ollicc, appeared, for the Crown, while Sir. M. Myers appeared for tho defendants.

I Horace Chisholm, who was convicted of selling milk deficient in fatt.v substances, .was fined £1, with solicitor's fee awl other costs, totalling £1 18s. (Sd. Mr. A. W- Blair appeared for the defendant. A CITY RAID. Charges arising out of a raid on premises known as 58 Elizabeth Street were hoard. Tlio premises had been visited by Sergeant Kelly, Sergeant Fitzpat-rick, Sergeant Willcocks, and other'police officors about 10 o'clock on Thursday night, when nine persons were arrested. Boeker (in soldier's ■uniform), and Francis Henry Gordon Guilford (also in soldiers' uniform). Inspector Hmidrey prosecuted, and Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared for the accused, all of whom pleaded not guilty.. Evidence given by the police officers was to tlio effect that the house had been under observation for some time past. Complaints having been received as to tlie conduct oftho promises. The police case closed just before 5 o'clock last evening, and the hearing was then adjourned until Monday afternoon.

Bail, was allowed the acoused—£lo in every case. : BAD, LANGUAGE. John Laidlaw Walling, for whom Mr. E. IC. Kirkcaldie appeared, pleaded guilty to a charge of using obscene language in Upland Road. He was fined £10, with costs 135., the alternative being one month's imprisonment. BREACHES OF BY-LAWS, ETC. For failing to supply five iieifsts with adequato food and shelter, an elderly, man named John Hamilton was fined £2 with costs 75., the alternative being seven days' imprisonment.For_ allowing stock to wander, the following persons were convicted and ordered to pay Court costs: —A. S. H. -Death, H. Robertson, and S. Branz.

Charles Pearse pleaded guilty by letter to selling an indecent document, namely, the magazine entitled "The Green Room." Ho was fined £1, with costs 7s. For breach of- the by-laws relating to motor traffic, the following persons were penalised Daniel Chapman, fined £1 with Court costs 75.; Sydney Morrison and L. G. James, fined os. each with Court costs 75.; and Richard , Henry Smitlu ordered to pay Court costs 7s. William Needham'was convicted and discharged, for permitting 'a nuisance at 49 Mulgrave Street by , allowing manure to accumulate.

convicted and ordered to pay costs and expenses amounting to 19s. For failing to attend drill, Herbert Clomont Headifen was fined us.,, with costs 7s.

Jolm Murphy was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, while for committing .in indecent act lie was fined 405., tho alternative being seven days' imprisonment. Nino first-offending inebriates were convicted and discharged.
