WAR PENSIONS
424 OASES DEALT WITH. The War Pensions Board has ha<J three sitting days this week, and when yesterday's business was concluded the Board had dealt with 424 cases to date. These were made up of 222 pensions granted, 42 temporary allowances, 56 declined, 21 adjourned, and 83 in hand. The 222 pensions granted represent an annual expenditure of £10,743, tho average pension being £48. Tlie 42 temporary allowances represent an expenditure of £1063.
The applications dealt with at this week's meeting of the Board totalled 74, the heaviest list to date. The total was made up of 26 members of the Forces and. 48 dependents. Of the former six were granted pensions, 13 temporary allowances, 3 wore declined, and 4' adjourned. Of the 48 dependents, 41 were granted pensions, 4 were declined, and 3 adjourned. The pensions of the 6 members of the Force mentioned above total £286—the highest being £78. The 13 temporary allowances represent an actual amount of £263. The 41 dependents were awarded pensions totalling £1549, one at £117, one at £104, two at £78, and one at £65 and one of £9. Those were all wives of soldiers and all got the maximum allowance for their respective ranks. Tlie others were all parents of soldiers, two being granted pensions of £52, six £39, one £30, 22 £26, one £20, one £18, one £12, and one £10. .The 47 pensions work out at £1833, or an average of £39.
