MASTERTON NOTES
A distinct shock of earthquake was experienced hero at 9.17 o'clock on Monday ovonins. A. largo crowd assembled at the Masterton railway station on Tuesday morning to bid farewell to the Wairarapa quota of the Tenth Reinforcements. Tile silver band headed the procession to the station, and the men, who are of a fine, stamp, were given an enthusiastic sendoff. No fewer than ninety-four members, ex-members, and honorary members of the Red Star Football Club have joined the colours. About three-quarters of an hich of rain fell in the Masterton district on Monday evening. Shearing is being delayed on account of the brokon -weather. Tho Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew a race from Auckland. The winning bird was Mr. G. Pointer's "Gay Lad." Mr. and Mrs. H. Vaughan, of Masterton, have received advice of the death of their daughter (Mrs. P. Eagle), in Christchurch.
Captain Donald Simson lias teen advised by cablegram that lie has been returned at the top of Hie poll for the Johannesburg City Council, as one of tlio citizens' ticket. Captain. Simson has been a member of that council for the last six years, and in more cases than not lie has been returned head of the poll. He is a brother of Mr. Lan Simson, who contested the Hawko's Bay seat with Mr. Campbell at the last Parliamentary election but one.
