Speaking in tho House of Commons, Mr. Tennant, Under-Secretary for War, said he hoped that Sir lan Hamilton's dispatch wild soon be published. There had been rumours, lie continued, that Sir lan Hamilton had spent too much time on shipboard, and insufficient time ashore. His headquarters were 45 minutes' steam from Suvla, forty minutes from Anzac, and 45 minutes from Holies, and an officer -who lia<L been intimately associated with the General had said that no commander-in-chief of modern times had been more with the troops -under fire than had Sir lan Hamilton; there was not a single front line trench that he had not visited. Mr. Tennant added that the wounded in the Dardanelles had, generally, been extremely well looked after, but the number of wounded had exceeded anticipations, and the shipping facilities had been insufficient.

Mr. Asquitli, the Prime Minister, speaking in the House of Commons, said that lie would make a statement to-mor-row regarding the question of applying conscription to unmarried men. To avoid ail misconception, lie said that it was obvious that there would be no attempt to apply the principle of compulsion without the consent of Parliament.
