The racehorses Pall Mall, Hymettius, xsallj har, Haumakaka,: and Wironiko were aboard the Pateena, which sailed for Picton yesterday.., . Pile New Zealand-bred Maple Leaf (Canada—Sweet Nell), a good performer amongst the ponies in Victoria, has now joined the Shipley Stud at Warnambool. Highly satisfactory acceptances have been reoeived for the Ashhurst meeting, which is to be held on November 24, and, given fine weather, tho club should have a very successful gathering. W. Bush, who rade Vascular in his engagements at. Kiccartyn, will do the hurdle racing for the Hon. J.. D. Ormond fpr the remaindor of the season. The win of Sweet Tipperary in tho Welcome Stakes, and her subsequent failures on the two concluding days, is -.till a popular theme of discussion amongst local sportsmen. In the Welcome Stakes, on a perfect track, the filly won decisively ill' 49 2-ssec. • On the Wednesday, wlien the going was not so fast, she was beaten out of a place in a half-mile, which occupied one-fifth of a second longer to run, while on Saturday the Electric Plate took 48 4-sscc., and the filly was again out of a place. There may have been an element of' luck about the Welcome Stakes win, and the filly was certainly lucky to defeat Nystad, who has since accounted for her twice. Most likely the black daughter of King's Guest, was well served by 'drawing the outside in the Welcome Stakes, as she got a clear run, while the others got tangled up with one another, and amongst those to suffer wero Thestius, Egypt/ Hyttus, and Nystad. It is unfortunate that Sweet Tippf raTy is not engaged at Feilding, as she would have had another chance of meeting Egypt and Nystad. Stepuey has been sent to Blenheim to fulfil his engagement in the bier handicap,in which he will be ridden bv C. Emerson. At the conclusion of the C.J.C. Meeting several of tho leading horsemen motored to Blenheim to ride at the Marlborough meeting, which oneni to-morrow, and will be concluded on Thursday.
