BANKRUPT BAKER'S AFFAIRS

Br Telejraph—Press Association. Auckland, November 13. Tom Strange, a bankrupt baker, had to undergo a severe examination at a meeting of creditors. Debtor stated that when he was fined in Court for selling light-weigbt bread he enlisted in the infantry, and was informed he v'ould lie transferred to baking at Trentham. The fact that he'had a wife and six children was known to the military authorities, because it was on his papers. A creditor stated' that if the debtor kept sober he coidd earn £3 15s. to £4 a week •as a baker in Auckland. It would he a disgrace to let the man go and leave a young wife to battle for six children. Tho Assignee suggested that tho wife might be better_ off" if' the debtor went than if ho remained behind and drank. Debtor having signed a document alloting the wholo of his pay except a shilling a day to bis wife and family tho meeting declined to take any steps to stop him enlisting.
