MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided at the sittings of tho Magistrate's Court on Saturday, when "Walter Honry Newman was sont to gaol for six months on a charge of vagrancy. Joseph Chalk, for using obscene, language, was fined £3, the alternative being fourteen days' imprisonment. Harry Knox, a soldier, was convicted of insobriety and obscene language, and was handed over to the military authorities.
Persons convicted of insobriety were dealt with as under :"i—Jamos Kerr, fined 405., with the option of seven days' imprisonment: James M'Laughlin, fined 205., or 48 hours' imprisonment ; John Reedy and Eobert Wallace, fined 10s each, or 48 hours' imprisonment. , Peter Hughes, who was found helplessly, drunk, was remanded for a week.
