•The market had many fluctuations in the Cressy -Welter Handicap, but when betting closed Charlotte was first choice, with Gold Soult, Robert Bell and Ardent next in public favour. Encore, who had been unlucky in 'his two previous starts, won comfortably in fast time from Seadown, who showed his best form to date. Gold Soult was just clear of Tree Lucerne
The Seymour Handicap was an event for apprentices, and drew 17 runners. The dinner turned up in the little-fan-cied Yaldhurst filly Halina, who began smartly and led all the way.' She had a big break at the half journey, but stopped badly at the finish, and only defeated Findhorn by a neck. The winner is a ■well-bred filly, but her earlier form this season was a disappointment.
The Members' Handicap, seven furlongs, went to Chakwana after one of the finest contests of the meeting. ' Three took charge and led round the bend, but his rider broke a stirrup leather, and the colt ran wide and took Bee with him. This allowed' Ohakwana to get up on the inner, and after a great finish between tho trio the judge awarded the race to the Trentham-trained maro. Kaminoho and Daytime wero close up.
Egypt, runner-up to Thieo in the Juvenifo Plate, was always tho fancy inthe Pioneer Handicap, and at the distance ho and Killena wore clear of the field, but The Toft' (Boniform-Class) finished very strongly, and won very decisively from the favourite. Good Hope, who was putting in good' work at the right end, was third, and Killena and Maorilander finiehod in that order.
The star item of the day's card next came on for decision. Desert Gold, who lookod none the worse for her racing, was always favourite, hut at tho finish Warstep ran her close ou tho machine. Emerson had the mount on the latter owing to F. E. Jones having broken a collarbone at the trotting meeting tho day provious. Tho favourite jumped out very smartly, while Warstep' was last to leave tho.barrier. Making tho pace a cracker, the three-year-old filly cast tho first six furlongs behind in. lmin. lfcec. Hero Emporador was in second place, but at tho bottom of tho straight First Glance and Warstep (the latter had not had a good Tun to here) moved up. Warstep disposed of First Glance, but could not reaohi tho filly. Tho time, 2min. S 4-sscc, is a record tor tho raco.
Nystad was favourite in the Elc'ctrio Plate, but neither he nor any of the two-year-olds acted up to expectations. Sweet Tipperary again caused a long delay at the barrior. After the start Veronal, Tatterley, Sweet Corn, and Nystad were prominent. Racing.on to the course proper, the Liuacre mare was clear of the field, but over tho last half-furlong Tete-a-tete tamo with a great run and beat tho Australian mare by a length. Tatterly was a length behind Veronal, and then canio Nystad and Kocsian.
For Mia concluding event Eligiblo (Dec. ley) w.03 the best supported. Tho Boniform colt began badly, and down the back Lnraer and Battlo Eve wcro in charge.
