A STRANGE STORY

REVOLVER INCIDENT AT THE HUTT. At about 2 o'clock yesterday morning a man called at tho Lower Hutt Police Station and told Constable Cameron a straugo story. He stated that he had received notice to quit certain premises owing io his inability to keep up payments. He had come out from Wellington, and upon arriving at his homo he was amazed to' find someone iu possession, and the doors and gate locked. As he was unable to enter he took two bicycles from the premises, and 'asked the constable to .keep them for tho time .boing. He then announced his intention of proceeding to Wellington. At 4 o'clock a loud rapping awoke tho constable again, and this time be was urged to como immediately to a certain locality, as there was trouble, and a revolver had been fired. Constable Cameron soon after arrived at' the spot, and after obtaining an entry speedily took possession of the revolver. It appoared that the person insido the house was the original owner of tho house. Tho man who claimed that he was unable to enter hi» mm home, it is stated, had purchased tho property !,omo time ago;. but had been ordered to jiuit owing to not having completed his contract. The person inS possession of tho house, it is stated, admitted firing ono shot, but stated that he only did it to indicate that tho weapon was loaded. He added that tho man who was unable to gain admittance smashed a glass panol at the side of tho front door in order to force an entry. He called out from inside that ho had a revolver, and the roply was that there was nothing in it. To prove_ that it was loaded, fearing the outside man would do more damage, ho fired in tho air. Tho revolver, which is of an old-fashioned pattern, contained four pin-fire cartridscs Goaded) and one discharged. The polico have the matter in hand.
