ROSE DAY

A SUM OE £1000 IN SIGHT. The Y.M.O.A. Rose Day helpers liad another busy time on Saturday, when they succeeded in disposing of great quantities of roses and other flowers, in their efforts to raise £1000 for the comfort of soldiers in camp and elsewhere. There were botwocu 200 and 300 ladies engaged in the sale, and friends of the members of the Bth Reinforcements purchased freely to donate to the soldiers. A feature of the afternoon parade was tho floral decorations carried by the men on their'rifles and in their hats and belts. The sale of sweets also brought in a good sum towards the total arrived at.

Up to 11 p.m. on Saturday the total takings, including some promises, came to £908, and tho Y.M.C.A. workers aro going right ahead till tho full amount is mado up. It is anticipated that £1050 will be secured, in order to allow a clear £1000 to be devoted to the good purpose, after the oxpenses have been paid.

Tho Mayoress of Blenheim called at the Y.M.C.A. rooms and intimated that a garden fete was to be held,at Blenheim, and the funds would be donated to the Y.M.O.A. fund for comforts.

A group of ladies in Marten are opening a shop for week-end sales of *butter and farm produce, all the proceeds to be forwarded to the Y.M.O.A. for addition to tho fund.

The returns from the sale of flowers in Carterton are not yet to hand. Chaplain Captain Sullivan, who returned with tho first draft of wounded, is to give a lecture to-morrow night, descriptive of the landing of the Anzac corps at Gaba Tepe. There will be a patriotio auction at the close of the lecture, for which gifts are invited.
