TRENCH NEWSPAPERS
At least two newspapers are published on ships of the North Sea Fleet—the "Newsletter" and the "North Sea Times." The French also publish a trench newspaper, and by the last mail came to hand l No. V, vol. I, of "Dinkuni Oil" war news, June 23, published in the trenches on the Gallipoli Peninsula by the Australians. It is a one-sheet publication, and its editor modestly announces "Circulation —a good many. Price—one Turkish trench." It has a number of advertisements, a serial, and a special cable service "from Milparinka." One of these cables states: — "Great consternation has been caused in the War Office by the discovery that several captured Turks ihad plans of Broadmeadows Camp in their possession, and a hydroplane raid on the Northern Territory is feared." Under' the heading "Diary, of the War, June 1," we find: "Naval man on beach states that French have taken Achi Baba. June 2—A signaller states that the French have taken Achi Baba. Juno 3 —A major's batman states that the British are to take Achi Baba to-mor-row night. June s—Several5 —Several men on the right state that the French can be seen coming 'over Achi Baba. June 9—lt ie reported l from the beach that the British have taken Achi • Baba. June 10 —A newspaper states that Achi Baba does not exist; its real name is ' Surrey Hills." It is a readable little paper.— "Sydney Morning Herald."
