MAKARA COUNTY
The inouthly meeting .of the Makara County Council was held yesterday. Tftere wew present: Councillors A. J. Taylw (in tiho chair), J. H. Haggcrty, J. Monaghan, J. Pyle, L. Bryant, and G. Monk. It was decided to put up notices on the bridges on the Ngahauranga Gorge Road, to the effect that the bridges aro iinsafo for heavy traffic. >
•Reports ooi the storm damage were coi sidered, and the chairman detailed, fclu steps ( taken to repair the roads and. bridges. Several bad washouts had occurred, but these had been temporarily fixed up, and woi;k was still proceeding on them. The chairman said that several ratepayers had approached him, and suggested that where new bridges were necessary they should build' in concrete.' and not timber. The initial cost would be more, but eventually a saving would be mado. He thought that if a poll was taken 75 per cent, of the ratepayers i would be in favour of concrete. J
