A CHRISTMAS EVE COLLECTION.

A SUGGESTION. Sir, —Could ,you find room in your valuable paper for the following suggestions? 1 should like also to write to the secretary of the Belgian Fund Committee, but do not know where he is to lie found.

It seems to me wo are not doing as much a 6 wo should for the Belgians, who saved England and tlio Serviaus, who are lighting so nobly at the present time. It seems to me that a weJlorganised collection should be taken up during Christmas Eva right throughout New Zealand. It is a time when everyone is feeling well-disposed towards liis neighbour (or should be), and when everyone has money iu his pocket and is anxious to spend) it. Listead, however, of spending on our friends, relatives, and children, who could very well do without this Christmas, would it not ho very much kinder and more honourable to remember our obligation to Belgium, and to remember also that there will lie .hundreds of starving Belgian and Servian children this Christmas Eve, while in New Zealand our children will be at Joast well fed. I think if the collection is made for the children alone of these two countries surely no man, woman, or child could resist the appeal to help materially such a noble cause, even though he or she may already have given largely to other patriotic funds. Thanking you in anticipation.—l am, etc., FOR THE CHILDREN.

P.S. —Our intention might bo cabled to the Belgian authorities in Belgium, so that on Christmas Evo there tho 'children might know that we were at least, thinking of them, and that good things were coming to them. ' Westport, November 8.
