Dr. de Lautour, of Kilbirnie,.has received the following cablegram from His Excellency the Governor, throiigh the Secretary.of State for the Colonies: ."I deeply regret to inform you that His Excellency the Governor has just received a cablegram reporting that your son, Private (465) ■ Cecil Andrew de Lautour, Rhodesian Regiment, died of pneumonia at Kilmandane, East Africa Protectorate, on November 4- (Sgd.) Gavin Hamilton,• Private . Seoretary." The deceased soldier was the second son of Dr. de Lautour, was born at Oamaru in 1880, educated at Waitaki High School and Otago Boys' High School, and served in South Africa with the sth, 7th,. and Bth New Zealand Contingents through the Boer War. This is the second bereavement the family havo sustained, two of six sons oil active service having lost their lives. Mr. J. S. Barton, solicitor, is leaving on a holiday trip to Sydney to-morrow. Mr. P. C. Corlifis i Commissioner of Stamps, who has been on a holiday trip to the Old Country, was a passenger by the Orontes, which has arrived at Melbourne, on his return to New Zealand. Captain Leopold M'Laglen, who has been in New Zealand for some months past', is leaving Auckland for London by R.M.S. Turakina to-day. Messrs. R. D. Boyle and J. 'Brown, late of The Dominion staff, who entered the N.C.O.'s Camp at Palmerston North in July last, and wore attached to B Company, Btli Reinforcements, have been promoted to second lieutenants.

Captain Wm. Janson (late D Battery), of Hawera, who went with tho Main Body, Wellington Mounted Rifles, is now in Endsleigh Palace Hospital for Officers, Endsleigli Gardens, NAY. London. . He is not wounded, but is to have an operation owing to varicose veins. Captain Janson was in the trenches for. four and a half months, and in every engagement up to August 31. The Wellington Mounted l Rifles took the first line of attack. He hopes to be back in the firing line again after a short rest. Captain C. Mac Arthur, manager at Wellington of the Canterbury Steamship Co., has offered his services to the Imperial Government as a captain of a transport, mine-sweeper, or in any other capacity that will servo the Empire at sea. He has two sons at tho front. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Bloy have been engaged to play in the orchestra, at Everybody's Theatre. The staff and directorate of the Belvedere Factory on Sunday morning presented Mr. Charles Corlett, first assistant, who has enlisted for active service, with, a wristlet watch as" a token of esteem. . _ Dr. Deck, of Motueka, is leaving shortly to take up medical duties at the Treivtham camp. /
