THE PATEENA SAILS
AN UNUSUAL INCIDENT. A most unusual incident occurred in connection with the crew of t'ho steamer l'ateena at Wellington yesterday. For seme timo past she lias been unable to procure a stokehold crew on account of tho men insisting that nine firemen and three greasers should be employed below, instead of her ordinary complement of six firemen, three trimmerß, and' three greasers. To this arrangement tho Union Company refused to agreo, and consequently it was decided to lay tho vessel up indefinitely. Yesterday, however, members of the Seamen's Union approaohed the superintendent engineer of the company and offered to sign on tho Pateena on tho old maiming scaje. This request was acceded to, and tlio Pateena left at 9 p.m. yesterday for Nelson direct) in place of the Mapourika. It is understood that the latter vessel will remain here till Friday next when she will relievo the Pateena in the Wellington-Picten-ftelson sendee. The Pateena will, it is stated, take tKe place of the Maori for a trip or two on uhe ferry run whilst the latter vessel is being docket for overhaul.
