The "Vossiche Zcitung" gives a vivid description of the fighting ou the Western front. "Tlieso are wild days. The battles in September wrought a_ new spirit in tho trenches. Tho fighting in 1' landers, Artois, Champagne, and Lorraino has been more virulent and crucl, and the embitternieut is great. The offensive still vibrates the air. Hitherto the most merciless fighting was confined to the Argoiine, where the woods favoured horrible methods. Now it has oxtended to the wholo front, with the oldest' forms of weapons, combined with the most- modern engines which science has devised, such as steel arrows, fire arrows of the aviators, and liquid fire. It recalls tho ancient days when slings were used for pitching, trench mines, some Roman weapons, and hand'grenades wore important in the seventeenth century.
