PEACE RUMOURS "MADE IN GERMANY"

Swiss Socialist newspapers allege that unofficial conferences between Prince von-Bulon- and the representatives of the several belligerents will shortly occur at Lucerne oil the subject of peace. This statement is ridiculcd, and is probably part of a German propaganda to interfere with our much-needed recruiting. EXTRAVAGANT REPORTS CURRENT. (Rec. November 5, 10.40 p.m.) London,' November 4. The "Daily Telegraph's" Milan correspondent states there are many cxtiavagant reports as to the nature of Prince Von Bulow's mission to Switzerland. The general impression is that Germany is seeking for an opening to an armistice. for negotiations with the Allies. Prince Von Bulow allows tho Swiss Press to represent him as the bearer of an olive branch. Well-informed correspondents_ state that hints have been given out ill Berne that Germany is willing to forego her conquests and tho indemnity if guaranteed her lost colonies, the freedom of the seas, and favourable commercial treaties. November 5, 5.5 p.m.) London, November 5.In the House of Commons, Mr. A. W. Yeo (member for Tower Hamlets) asked whether the Post- Office would refund the postage on the thousands of parcels which had not been delivered to the troops in the Dardanelles, and which had accumulated and sjfoilt■' at Alexandria, Mr. Hubert Samuel (PostmasterGeneral), in reply, said that a special inquiry was proceeding. The mail service was necessarily slow, owing to transport difficulties. Numerous parcels had been insecurely packed, and could not, lie delivered.
