WAR RELIEF FUNDS

• The administration of the funds subscribed by the public in this, district for the assistance of wounded or distressed soldiers, and sailors, and their dependents appears to have been now placed on a satisfactory working basis. The War Belief Association, which has the control of the main funds raised here, has adopted a- set of rules and regulations which is broad enough to cover most of the contingencies which may be expected to arise, and the scope i of the work may be extended should occasion require. . An Executive Committee of representative citizens who should command the confidence of the subscribers to the funds has been set up, and the Mayor. (Mr. J. P. Luke) and Mr. J. G. W. Aitken will equally command public confidence as trustees. A great deal will of course depend on the methods of administration adopted by the Executive. The Committee elected is a large one and as a rule in such cases the detailed work in course of time falls on the few. This will no doubt be safeguarded as far as possible by the appointment of sub-committees to deal with special branches of the work. One of the earliest matters calling for the consideration of the Executive is the question of devoting a portion of the funds for the benefit of wounded and invalided soldiers in hospitals or convalescent homes abroad. This subject has been discussed recently. in our columns, and the Y.M.O.A. offered the services of its admirable organisation as a distributing agency in Egypt and elsewhere.
