The second woman is a war widow with a child aged three, tier husband, who was killed at the iront, was a cashier earning £180 a jear. Tho woman's income is now £3 li a ?°Tr til, Her «spenses, which include halt a pound of meat per week, amount to £3 3s. lOd. She declared! lr I live quite frugally, and only eat meat onoe a week, and for the rest live ou vegetables, then I have only'just enough. For soino days past I have received employment from tho Patriotic Womens Association, with a monthly wage of £2 10s., with which I can arrange my living much better." This woman s dwelling is a singlo furnished room. A third woman has two children, aged six and four. Hor husband's earnings before the war are not stated. Her income now is £6 12s. a month, and her expenses for the same period for rent (ono room and a kitchen), food, etc (including half a pound of meat weekly) are £6 Bs. 6d.
The Wairoa Farmers' Co-operative Meat Company lias let a contract for a complete power plant and freezing works machinery, including Babcock and Wilcox ixmers awl Haslam refrigerators.
