THE TWO MILLION LOAN
STATEMENT IIY SIR JOSEPH WARD. Tho Minister of Finance (tho Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward) mentioned tho Public Works Loan to a reporter prior to his departure for Auckland last liielit. He said that it was not possible for liini to speak fully regarding the loan at that staee, as 'applications would not close until the end of tho week. But lie could give an assurance* that the loan was being well _ subscribed for throughout tho Dominion. _ It Was usual for applications to be particularly numerous during the last? few days of the term allowed, antl he hnd no doubt at all that the issue would be a SUCCRKS. The Ministeradded that it was surely in th<> best interests of the Dominion that the money rnnuired for necessary nublic works should bo provided readily. The amount raised was _to bo spread over a much longer period than usual, hut it should meet tho lem'timato requirements of the country. Tlio longer period meant reduced annual expenditure, but this could bo effected, ho felt sure, without injury being done in any direction.
