Heavy ram yesterday and during the night made the tracks at Ellerslie soft, but 110 rain fell during the training operations this morning. All work of importance was registered 011 the outside eourso proper. Lolonm beat Hadj over four furlongs, in 53 4-ssec. Astor did tlio same distance. Hydrus ran six furlongs, the time for the last fivo being Irani. 9 3-ssec. Merry Roe was too good for Guiding Way over a round, covered in 2min. 7sec. Colonel Soult, with the assistance of Signo over the last five furlongs, covered 6ix furlongs in lmin. 19 3-ssec. Playoff ran four furlongs in 54 4-ssec. Self and Castalia were together in front of Tenacious at the end of seven furlongs, which occupied lmin. 37 l-ssec. Mandoline did six furlongs in lmin. 23sec. Hyllus was better than Cultriform over four furlongs, run in 55sec. Potoa and Jolie Fille went a. round in Emin. 11 2-sscc. The former was lame after working. Royal Irish, going easier than Peiuloon, covered seven furlongs in lmin. 37sec. After breakfast Goldsize, with the assistance of Gold Fran over the last sis furlongs, did a round in 2min. ssec. Jack Delaval was better than Mullingar in' a six-furlong gallop, occupying lmin. 21 l-ssec. Itokenui beat Waiuku over four furlongs in 51sec. Tinopai did seven furlongs in lmin. 35sec.', the fastest gallop of the morning. Glenroy went five furlongs in lmin. 8 3-ssec. Expedition did a round of tig country, jumping- well> but was sore afterwards. A lot of others also worked.
