Owners and trainers should note that entries for all cvonts at the AshhurstPoliangina Meeting close on luesday next. The Telegraph. Office at Ashhurst is open until 8 p.m. Tho V.R.C. Spring Carnival opens at Plemington to-day. , G. Price had a "vet." to look at' Expect after tho "Wellington Meeting. The Advance horse is now making a lot of noise and as his trainer does not favour throat operations it is possiblo that Expect will not be found racing much longer* There were two double winners at Gisborne, viz., I'lvudne and Jem. Evadne has been racing well lately and a win for her at Gisborne was quite expected. Her owner won a double at Gisborne in July by the aid of Diavolo, who was sul> sequently sold for a big figure to race in Australia. Jem is owned by a Wainnkurau Maori, Ml'. Ruptihu Te Jliangn. Tho latter has had good' horses in tho past, including Tiritea, who was a first-class 'chaser. Jem is now trained by Atlas White, who also won with The Summit at Gisborne. The owner of Agatha Green ifi dissatis-
fled with f the weight .allotted liis mare at Ellerslie, • and she will not make the trip north. The Wellesley Stakes winner. Bockbound is an unlikely starter in the C.J.C. Welcome Stakes. In the past the. 10lb. penalty has always stopped the Welleslev stake, winner at Biccarton. Indigo is coming in for a lot of supiwrt fot tho New Zealand Cup and by Saturday next ho is likely to oust Warstep from the position of favourite. On Tuesday morning at Trentham Indigo, carrying his Cup weight, ran his Cup ■trial over 12' furlongs, and he acquitted himself in a manner which left no doubt in his trainer's mind that he is a better horse now than at any previous stage of his career. Acceptances for the minor events at the C.J.C. Meeting close on Monday night. The defeat of Lady Elysian at Gisborne yesterday was costly to local backers who regarded the Avondale winner ns something like a certainty. Her connueror is by Hvmettus from Gold Thread, and is one of Mr. G. P. Donnelly's breeding, but she races ill the colours of Mr. 3. E. Troutbeck, of Galatea. The English-bred filly Week End will be ridden ill the Stewards' Handicap by C. Sinclair. It is understood . that Hyginas will carry the Ormond colours in the Stewards' Handicap at Biccarton, and that Hoy will be reserved for other" events. It is understood that Mr. G. B. Starky is so pleased with the promising filly Week End that he has sent Home to try to obtain a full sister to her. Week End is racing ns a three-year-old, but she is only about two and a half years old. ■ The. Waverlefy Cun winner, Imarose, who is owned in Blenheim, has been engaged in both big handicaps at tho forthcoming Marlborough meeting. The Now Zealand horseman H. Lorijan, who has been riding in Sydney for pomo months past, is returning by the Moeraki, which arrives on Monday and will be available at the Biccarton Meeting next week. The erratic Kilts, who has been off tho scene for a considerable time, made his reappearance in the District Handicap at Bangiora. on Thursday, but his 'Winners have not improved (hiring his snell, and the amateur horseman who had the mount was unable to get him to leave the barrier. Tho queerly named Hikakalieke, a winner at Gisborne yesterday, is engaged in •tlie hurdle events at the New Zealand Cup Meeting. He is the property of Mr. G. 0. Ormond, of Gisborne, and is by the Karamu bred Zimmerman. The entries received for the Marlborough Spring Meeting are hardly un to the (standard of previous years, anil in ihe Flying Handicap, six furlongs, only five horses are engaged. The two' Scurry's and the- trotting events have filled well, bnt in tho other ovenls tliero is room for improvement. Sleacombe easily accounted for the hurdles at Gisborne yesterday, but ho had to run tho gauntlet of a. protest before his backers got their money. Prince Eddie, runner-up. lias been tried on tho flat and over hurdles and steeplechaso courses, but he has not been a success at either game. Bed Shield and Ay© Beady, two of tho lato Mr. John Buckley's breed, figuro amongst tho entries for tho Marlborough meeting. Trainers J. Fryer, with Welcome Nugget, Tree Lucerne, and the hurdler. Cornelian, and A. Atwood, with Taugihou, went south last evening. Taugihou will lie ridden ia the Cup by the apprentice, G. Clarke, who -attracted favourable attention at Trentham by liis displays on Battle Eve and Haumakaka. The local horseman, S. Beid, will have the mount' on Cornelian, and 0. M'Arten will ride Tree Lucerne .and ,Welcome Nugget. Whilst being shipped to Lytteltou yesterday tho English horse, Panmurp, played up and. could not bo enticed into tho loading box, but with the arrival of his trainer the. whip was freely applied, and tho Martagon horso then walked into the box,
