PEOPLE'S DAY RING COMPETITIONS . (From Our Special Correspondent.) , Mastorton, October 28. '■ There was a record attendance for '.'People's Day" of tho Wairarapa Show it Carterton, which was held in fino weather. A contingent from the Eighth Reinforcements held a. parade on the ground, which created a very favourable impression. The results of tho competitions at tho show wore as follow:— Walking match for horses (style ajid pace), AY~ Howard Booth's Lonely, 1. Trotting horse, to be ridden (style and carriage), W. Redmond's Monsoon, 1; S. Jensen's Hard Luck, 2. Trotting licrse in harness (style, carriage, and pace. No trotting or racing sulky allowed), W. Redmond, 1; S. Jensen, 2. lilaideii leaping match, Tilson's Chorister, 1; If. A. Belief's Erina, 2; R. D. Morrison's Mist, 3. Sheep dog trial (pulling, driving, and yarding), C. Hayes's William Wallace, 1; C. H. Hay's Scotland's Pride, 2; W H. Gaisi'ord's Sweep, 3. Pony stallion (12 hands), Hector Bishop, 1; W. La Roche, 2. Pony stallion' (under 14-hands), E. Liddington, 1? Pair buggy horses, Mrs. H. R. Lady's hack, Miss D. AVnrren's Turanganui. : Thero was good competition in draught horses. The championship for draught stallion went to J. D. Ormond's Royal' Colours; the champion draught mare to A. Tocker (Featlierston).
In dogs, the Kennel Club's championship for Senratti haired sheep dog was won by F. H. R-ofe. (Carterton), and for smooth-haired bitch by T.- Reid (Clareville). ' '
Milking cows were a strong class at the show. E. EagleJ jun., was awarded first prize for cow in milk, any breed. For cows that have received semi-official certificate nijder the supervision of tho New Zealand Department of Agriculture, to be judged on Jersey standard, age of animal to be taken into consideration by. the judge, E; B. Eagle, 1 and 2; E. Eagle, jun., 3; W. H. Booth, li.c. Mi\ G. E. Allen .won Cooper and Nephew's Challenge Cup for most points' in either Lincoln or Romney Marsh classes. Mr. G. E. Allen won Mr. W. B. Allen's-silver cup for iriost points in Romiiey'Marsh classes, ill 1 . G. E. Allen won Messrs. M'Dougal] Bros.' trophy for most points in Ronme.v Marsh classes. Messrs. J. and W. Fisher won Messrs. Levin and Co.'s Challenge Shield for most points in farmers' classes (slieep). As Messrs. Fisher Bros, have secured the shield for three seasons, they now win the trophy outright. Poiiraa Mental/Hospital won tlie -A. and P. Food Company's Challenge Cup for.- most points'in pig classes. The Carriugton Co-operative Dairy Company (J. Brown, manager) won the Silver Challenge Cup donated by the Licensed Victuallers of Wairarapa for exhibitor- scoring the highest aggregate grading (joints in the iheeso.classes, scoring 277} points; Purkvale Co-operative Dairy Company
(James Linton, manager) was second Avitli 276£ points. Mrs. J. B. M'Kensste (Mastcrton) won Mr. W. Tucker's Gliallougc Cup for most points in sewing and fancy work and Lome industries classes, scoring 541 points. .Messrs. D. Buchanan and W. I. Lovelock tied with 34 points i'or Messrs. Walker and Hall's Challenge Cup for most points in any one breed in purebred cattle classes. The same two breeders tied with 33 points for tli'c Ford Motor'. Company's, silver tea tray and sorvico for exhibitor scoiting most points in any one breed of Holsteiu, Ayrshire, or Jersey purebred dairy cattle.
