PRODUCTION OF KHAKI

SUPPLIES WILL BE AMPLE

In response to a request made by the Hon. Arthur Myers, Minister in Charge ol Munitions and Supplies, the followmg gentlemen, representing the various woollen mills throughout New Zealand, attended a conference, which was held in Parliament-, Buildings yestorday:—J. Lane, Ashburtou Woollen Mills; C. Grey, Bruce Woollen Manufacturing Co.; J. A. Frosticlc and T. Leithead, Kaiapoi Woollen Company, Ltd.; E. Cameron, Mosgiel Woollen Co.; H. IJolroyd, Napier Woollen Co.; D. L. Patterson, Oamaru Woollen Factory Co.; J. C. Burns, Onehunga Woollen Mills; T. Glendining, Ross and Glendining, Dunedin; J. Lillico, South Canterbury Woollen Manufacturing Co.; W. Barber, Wellington Woollen Co. The Minister, in his opening remarks, pointed out that the present exigency of affairs demanded that priority of delivery should bo given to supplies required by the military authorities for the equipment of the troops, and intimated that, notwithstanding the fact that orders may be received from other customers, he would look to the members of tlio conference to do all that they could to arrango for this preference to bo given to tlio military requirements. The conference was continued yesterday afternoon, and at its conclusion the representative manufacturers present were ablG to inform the Minister that they could arrango for the supply not only of any_ shortage in the requirements for this year, but that, by working up to their highest capacity, 'ana by a distribution mutually agreed upon by all concerned they would be ablo to cope fully with all the requirements for 1916, which would fully cover all anticipated needs. Mr. Myers stated that all the representatives had evinced a cordial and earnest feoling that they should meet all the demands made of them on behalf of the military authorities. They were at the same time mindful of their obligations to tho New Zealand public, and it would be their endeavour so far as lay in their power to do justice to all.
