' SET FAIR, Prom the official records of the Labour Department it is gathered that for the week ended October 23 thero were 79 applications for employment made at the local bureau, of which number 42 were placed in work almost immediately. The officer in charge states that he 'is able to find work for all able-bodied men prepared to leave town. In Auckland there were 55 applications, 11 of which were accommodated with work. The bulk of the unemployed in Auckland is confined to labourers. In Christchurch there were 49 applications received„during the week, of which nine were given private employment. There is still a steady demand for labourers at the Otira tunnel work. Only nine applications for work were recorded in Dunedin, and three of them were immediately placed.
