On the question regarding reparation for Nurse Cavell's execution, Lord Robert Cecil (Under-Secretary 'for Foreign Affairs) said, in t'he House of Commons, that Mr. Asquith's assurances of May 5 applied with twofold force to this savage murder of a noble woman under legal forms. It would not serve any useful purpose to declare the Governor-General of Brussels personally responsible, as they were not yet sure who was the chief offender GERMAN ACCOUNT OF THE TRIAL, ("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.)
London, October 27. The "Vossischo Zeitung" reports ' that the trial of Nurse 'Cavell lasted three days. A society of thirty-five persons was implicated. It was Nurse Cavell's life undertaking. There was a regular scheme for the escape of soldiers through Brussels, the society caring for tliem until they were sent to the Dutch frontier. Two-thirds of the conspirators wfero women. The whole trial gave the reporter the impression of a well-organised society carrying on a regular recruiting business. GERMANS ALLEGE DISTORTION OF FACTS. (Eec. M'Neill (Nationalist) gave notice to ask Sir Edward Grey (l'oreign Minister) whether he has taken steps to convoy to General von Bissing (German Governor-General in Belgium) that when tho opportunity offers he will bo held personally responsible for the quasi-judicial assassination of Miss Cavell. UNDER SENTENCE OF DEATH. FOUR BELGIANS, INCLUDING A WOMAN. Amsterdam, October 27. A court-martial at Liege convictcd nine more Belgians for espionage. Tho Court sentenced four, including 3 woman, to death. APPEAL TO THE KAISER. LIVES OF BELGIANS AT STAKE. Rome, October 26. The King of Spain, the Pope, and Mr. Woodrow Wilson liave implored tlie Kaiser to save thirty-four Belgians at Liege who are under death sentence.
